“I receive love, acceptance and peace with understanding from the people, who come to share with us.” -A man in prison
Mount Carmel Baptist Church participates in quarterly worship services and on an as needed basis for the men incarcerated at both the maximum and minimum security facilities in Alexander County at the Alexander County Correctional Institution for Men.
Those on the “outside” are invited to cross a border into the world of prisons, providing opportunities for relationship building, reflection and action. Mount Carmel Baptist Church fosters a transformed understanding, between the outside community and those in prison, propelling both to work together to restore relationships and create awareness of the saving grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mount Carmel’s mission is to mobilize communities to move the current system toward a model of justice, that promotes spiritual healing and restores healthy relationships. Mount Carmel Baptist Church believes that individual and social transformation occurs, when people on the “inside” and people on the “outside” have an opportunity to meet and share a common experience of hope, reflect together on it, and discern the next step together.
Occasionally, men and women on the “outside” are invited to attend special events at the prison. In the past, Mount Carmel Church Family members have been present for the Christmas give away and annual volunteer banquet at the prison celebrated by Chaplain Redding and the correctional staff.
Advance clearance by the prison and approval by the N.C. Department of Correction is required of all visitors.
